Diliman Preparatory School

Diliman Preparatory School or DPS is a private school and one of the leading learning institutions along Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City. Diliman Preparatory School was founded in 1969 by a group of educators from the University of the Philippines Diliman who possessed not only an ardent passion for education and teaching but also a genuine love for children.

It offers nursery, kindergarten, elementary, and high school courses. In addition, it also offers medical transcription in its DCTI or Diliman Computer Technology Institute. This course is done in collaboration with the MTC Academy.

Diliman Preparatory School has a strong academic and sports program, especially in Sport Climbing. The team members has participated and won in 3 national competitions.^[1]

The school campus is composed of 5 buildings, namely the Alicia ML. Coseteng Hall, Felisa C. Generoso Hall, DCTI Building, Grade School Building, and the High School Building.

History

Prof. Alicia M. L. Coseteng, a retired Associate Professor, was founding President and Chairman of the Board. Mrs. Felisa C. Generoso, also from UP, though a retired UP Elementary principal, was the first grade school principal, while Dr. Irma R. Apelo was the first school physician as well as treasurer of the corporation which ran the school. They shared the same vision of initially putting up a school that would provide a sound basic education in the elementary level.

In July 1969, the Grade School department first opened the doors of its one-story building housing 10 classrooms offering classes in Nursery, Kindergarten and Grade 1-5 levels.

From its humble beginnings, the school now has three four-story buildings housing 2,500 students. The curriculum was strengthened by its Five-Year Development Program in line with the Basic Education Curriculum (BEC) of the Department of Education.

To create a state-of-the-art learning environment as it strives for excellence through an educational program that is future-driven, innovative, holistic, transformative, interdisciplinary and value-laden thus creating a “genius in every child”.

To promote a learning culture that upholds human, Filipino and global values characterized by a spirit of oneness, a climate of love, trust and respect for one another and enable the members of the community to actively respond to the needs of others thus becoming service-oriented citizens of this nation and the world.

Facility

The school boasts modern learning facilities like the Speech Room, AVR, Auditorium, Libraries, a swimming pool and 2 Gyms. It also has mini gardens and fountains for a relaxed, educating environment. The school has acquired numerous sculpted benches made of driftwood, to beautify and make the school an interesting place to study. A Business Center inside was established to cater with the needs of its faculty and students.

Sports and leisures

DPS Pep Squad

Another recent addition to the school's numerous organizations, the DPS Pep Squad has been formed to represent the cheering crowd of so-called Dilimanians, during the school's fights inside and outside its premises. And just recently at the U.E. Cheer it Up! Revolution 2012, the team won Champion. They also won Newest and Most Creative Routine Award in the National Cheerleading Championships in the SM MOA activity center in Pasay.

Swimming

Diliman Prep hosted the attempt to break the World Record in Swim Relay on December 10–11, 2010. The current world record is held by Italy with 5,028 swimmers.^[2] The attempt to break the Guinness World Record was able to elicit tremendous support from so many Filipinos, but was able to record only 4,732 successful swimmers who completed the full length of 60 feet each.
