Dictionnaire d'histoire et de géographie ecclésiastiques

Dictionnaire d'histoire et de géographie ecclésiastiques is an encyclopaedia founded by the future cardinal Baudrillart in 1912.

This immense and exhaustive work is currently edited by Luc Courtois and Eddy Louchez of Louvain and published by Letouzey et Ané of Paris. This encyclopedia, in French, covers mainly people and places related to the Christian tradition and follows a strict alphabetical order.

The first fascicule (from entry Aachs) was published in 1912 and the publication follows regularly year after year. In 2008 this encyclopedia arrived to fascicule 176 (containing entries from Langhe to Lashio). The whole work is published also in volumes, and up to 2008 the volumes published are 29 (up to entry Lambardi).

This informative work is subject to the vagaries of ecclesiastical politics and variations in the warmth of ecumenical relations (e. g. whether to include episcopal lists for Church of Ireland dioceses alongside their Catholic counterparts, where three policies have so far been followed).
