Dharmavaram is a city in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh, India. The city is famous for its handloom silk sarees.

Geography

Dharmavaram is located at 14°26′N 77°43′E / 14.43°N 77.72°E.[2] It has an average elevation of 345 metres (1131 feet).

Demographics

As of 2011 Census of India, the town had a population of 121,992. The total population constitute, 62,186 males, 59,806 females—a sex ratio of 962 females per 1000 males, higher than the national average of 940 per 1000.[1] 11,963 children are in the age group of 0–6 years, of which 6,441 are boys and 5,522 are girls—a sex ratio of 857 per 1000. The average literacy rate stands at 71.83% with 79,037 literates, slightly lower than the national average of 73.00%.[3]

Economy

Dharmavaram is a hub for pure silk sarees. The economy of the town is dependent on the weaving industry.[4]

Transport

Dharmavaram Junction railway station is a major railway station located on Bangalore-Hyderabad line.
