Dhananjay Mahadik

Dhananjay Mahadik is a well known politician of Kolhapur district in Maharashtra.[1] He is now Member of Parliament Lok Sabha from Kolhapur constituency in 16th Lok Sabha Indian general election, 2014. He was the candidate of Nationalist Congress Party[2] for the election and registered historic victory against Prof. Sanjay Mandlik.Dhananjay is the son of Mahadik Bhimrao Ramchandra.

Political career

In 2004, Mahadik had contested the Lok Sabha election as a candidate of Shiv Sena from Kolhapur against NCP's Sadashivrao Mandlik but lost.After losing he parted ways with Shiv Sena and he joined Nationalist Congress Party which considered as the party's candidate for the Indian general election, 2009. However after Mandlik's protest he contested the election as an Independent candidate but he lost .However NCP's candidate Sambhajiraje Chatrapati also lost the 2009 general elections.

Mahadik urged the members of his party and also the Congress politicians to support him by saying "The NCP and the Congress have forged an alliance at the national and the state level. I expect the local Congress leaders to stick to it and extend support to me."[2]

Mahadik will file his nomination for the election on March 24.[3]
