Dhamanagar (ଧାମନଗର) is a town and a notified area committee in Bhadrak district in the state of Odisha, India.

Geography

Dhamanagar is located at 20°55′N 86°27′E / 20.92°N 86.45°E.[1] It has an average elevation of 4 m (13 ft).

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[2] Dhamanagar had a population of 18,555. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Dhamanagar has an average literacy rate of 52%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 61% and, female literacy is 43%. In Dhamanagar, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.

History

In the history of Odisha Dhamnagar playes a major role. Kalinga's (Now Odisha) last war between Shri Mukunda Deva and Kalapahada was held at Gohirathikiri a place nearby Dhamnagar. And the Army of Raja Mukunda Deva stayed at Dhamanagar and the place is named as Naw Hazari killa and the temporary shed made for war Horses nearby Naw Hazari Killa and named as Ghodasali. Now a days Govt. of Odisha plan to make a Historical Garden in the memory of Kalinga's last war at Gohirathikiri. It is a place of religion and it is named Dhamnagar because many Dhamas (Religious place) is situated at Dhamanagr.

Culture

Shirine of Hozur Mujahid-E-Millat, Dhamnagar

Dhamnagar is an ancient place where many name & fame peoples are born. Dhamnagar is mainly famous for Annual Urs pak of Mujahid-e-Millat which is held for two days as according to Hizri Calender. Many peoples from all over India come to Dhamnagar for Ziarat of the holy sirine. This sirine is also known as Khanquah-E-Habibiah. Dhamnagar is also famous for its Kalipuja and Durgapuja.

For Muslims, the most famous attraction in Dhamnagar is Kadam-E-Rasul, situated 2 km from Darghah of Saint Hazrat Mujahd-e-Millat in Jagti. Many memorable Tabrukaat are there, including: the Kadam-E-Rasul of the Prophet Mohammed (SAWS), MOO-E-Mubarak Prophet Mohammed, Panja Mubarak Hazrat Maula Ali, Dupata Mubarak Khatum e Jannat, Kadam Pak Hazrat Gaus ul-Azam Dastegir.


Other sareefs' mazars are also in Dhamnagar, i.e. 1. Saha Jamal Baba, 2. Kazi Sahab Tayab Baba (Bazar Sahi), 3.Gazi Baba (Pathan Mohallah), 4.Kalu Sahab Baba (Jagati), 5.Shah Saheb Baba (Jagti), 6.Kazi Rafiuddin Baba (Kazi Saheb) Kazi Sahi, 7. Shah Mohammad Sarif (Baghu Baba) Munisipatna, 8. Shah saheb (charhabeli), 9. Shah Saheb (Nazar Sahi), etc. Jasne idd miladun Nabi Is Observed in Dhamnagar is very famous. On this day the Tabarukat at Kadam Rasul is shown to the public.

Muslims of Dhamanagr celebrate birthday of Prophet Mohammad every year on the occasion of Eid-Miladun-Nabi and meet at one place called Kadm-E-Rasul at Jagati. Qadm-E-Rasool organizing this Holy event.

Education

The institutions of this areas are Dhamnagar Govet. High School, Dhamnagar Girls High School, Dhamnagar Feeder School, Dhamanagr Urdu Pry. School, Madrasha Taheria Hanifia, Madrasha Gaushiya Raufia, Talapada U.G.M.E. School, Oxford Public School, Sainik School, St. Xaviers High School. Dhamnagar is also take part in the technical revelations and Nityanada Industrial Training Institute a technical institute situated at Dhamnagar. A Degree College which is affilated to FM University is situated at Dhamnagar named as Dhamnagar College.

Health & Medical Facility

A Govt Hospital is situated at dhamnagar to face any medical cases. And another State Govt. Unani Dispensiry is also at Dhamanagar (nearby Dhamangar College).

Politics

Current MLA from Dhamanagar Assembly Constituency is Rajendra Das of BJD, who won the seat in State elections of 2009. Previous MLAs from this seat were Manmohan Samal who won this seat in 2004 as BJP and BJD coalition candidate, Manas Ranjan Mallick who won in 2000 from the then BJP state president Manmohan Samal. Manmohan Came into controversy in 2006 March 26 by Sacrifying animal in front of Maa Rakshyakali of Rameswarpur. Another controversy made black spot in his Political Carrier is relationship with one Lady. Jagannath Rout who won in 1995 and in 1985 representing INC and also in 1980 representing INC(I), and Hrudananda Mallik who won in 1990 representing JD and also in 1977 representing JNP.[3]

Dhamanagar is part of Bhadrak (Lok Sabha constituency).[4]
