Controversies

He has received criticism for stating that he would alert Israeli authorities if he learned of a planned terrorist attack on their soil.[4] Furthermore, in July 2013, he declared that Israel is not the enemy of Arabs, but that the Muslim Brotherhood is.[5]

He is a major critic of Qatar's support of the Muslim Brotherhood, and in April 2014, stated that “Qatar should not be ‘a safe haven’ to the so-called ‘Muslim’ Brotherhood”. Additionally, he noted that the UAE should 'reclaim' Qatar.[6] This caused already-strained relations between Emirates and Qatar to further deteriorate. He also launched a verbal attack against Kuwait in March 2014, claiming that it supported the Muslim Brotherhood, and accused Kuwait of 'destroying Iraq'.[7]
