Dexter High School (DHS) is a public high school located in Dexter, Michigan. It serves grades 9-12. Dexter High School has approximately 1,200 students. William Moran is currently the principal of DHS. DHS is a part of the Dexter Community Schools District, which includes Cornerstone Elementary School (grades K-2), Bates Elementary School(grades K-2), Wylie Elementary School (grades 3-4), Creekside Intermediate School (grades 5-6), Mill Creek Middle School (grades 7-8), and Dexter High School (grades 9-12).
DHS is one of only two schools in the country with a dreadnaught as a mascot. The other school is Lakeland Senior High School.[1] The official school colors are maroon and white, but have shifted over the years whereas now maroon and gold are most commonly referenced.
History
Dexter High School was originally located in the building which is now Creekside Intermediate School. When the population of students became too large for this building, the new Dexter High School was built in 2002 in its current location.
Academics
Dexter High School offers multiple sections of ten different AP courses(nine with two alternating each year) and 19 IB courses. Dexter High School’s curriculum is aligned to the State of Michigan High School Content Expectations.[2] Dexter High School also houses more than 30 clubs for students to participate in.[3] DHS also has strong musical departments including Band, Orchestra, and most recently, choir.
Athletics
Dexter High School has 27 team sport opportunities available to students.[4]
The men's swim and dive team was named 2012 Division II State Champions.[5]
Other sports teams include an ice hockey team, which plays home games at the Ann Arbor Veterans Memorial Arena.[6]
