Destroy the Runner was an American metalcore band from San Diego, California, United States. Tim Lambesis of As I Lay Dying managed them for their album Saints, and did so again with Jason Rudolph for their second album I, Lucifer.

History

Early years/Saints

The band was called Die Like Me until they signed to Solid State Records, on which their debut album Saints was released on September 12, 2006 to mixed reviews. Their new name is in reference to the 1976 film Logan's Run. The band followed the release of the album with a tour supporting Haste the Day and Scary Kids Scaring Kids.[1] In October 2007, the band began recording their second LP with Brian McTernan at Salad Days Studios in Baltimore, MD.

I, Lucifer

On April 15, 2008, Destroy the Runner released I, Lucifer. The album has a more progressive sound, with less screaming than their previous album.[2] It charted in the U.S. on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart at No. 27 and on the Top Heatseekers chart at No. 25.

On August 11, 2009 the band announced on their Myspace blog that they are in the studio writing and recording and will have new material out soon.[3]

On the October 4, 2009 the band announced via Myspace bulletin that they would release a b-side from Saints before their new album would be released.

October 24, 2009 saw Chad Ackerman post a video on YouTube to answer some questions about their upcoming album. The album was supposedly to be heavier than I, Lucifer, Chad was to be screaming on the album, and Jordan Mancino of As I Lay Dying was rumored to be recording drums for the band.

December 3, 2009 the band released a statement saying that the b side from Saints will be entitled Sinners, and that Chad Ackerman re-wrote and recorded lyrics for the song. The B-side is now available online through iTunes.

On 16 May 2010, Destroy the Runner announced that they would taking an "indefinite hiatus". While the band is on hold, the members continue to be involved with music.

Other projects

In 2008, both current and past members of the band helped to work on Total Brutal, the debut album by Austrian Death Machine, a side-project of vocalist Tim Lambesis (of As I Lay Dying). Chad Ackerman voiced all of the "Ahhnold" impersonations on Total Brutal".

Other Mountains released the Japan EP in early 2010, as well as a full-length entitled Fernweh that came out early 2011. Fernweh was recorded with Teppei Teranishi (Thrice), who mixed the band's EP. The band includes Matthew Parker Oden and former DTR member Marc Kohlbry. Duane, Nick, and Kyle Rosa have also been contributing to the project, which they have described as a conscientious musical setting. Keep an eye out as they are currently playing shows in the San Diego and L.A. areas. Fernweh is available on iTunes. To download the free EP visit http://othermountains.us/.

Count Your Curses, a trip-hop/electro rock group, was formed in 2011. The project is a long-distance collaboration between Chad Ackerman, kmotiv (Programming, Synth, and Keyboards) and Sean Sallings (Guitars, Bass, & Percussion). Their first single, Zombie B-Boy was released March 1, 2011, with their debut record to follow in 2012.

Nick and Duane have also teamed up with Kyle Rosa (Thieves and Liars) and friend and tech Jason Lapean to explore the heavier side of things! As the songwriters for DTR, they have stepped outside the boundaries of their previous explorations. It is heavier, more technical, and more experimental than before. The band, Abandonner, is currently recording with Cove Reber (Saosin) and Tanner Sparks, while being mixed by Daniel Castleman. They are currently working on new material. They plan to release a full-length sometime in 2013.

Chapter 14 is currently recording and the band consists of Chad Ackerman, and Tanner Sparks. Former members include Mike Catalano(Destroy The Runner/Chiodos)on drums, Eddie Hudson(Paper Mache)on bass, and Noah Slifka(In Fear & Faith)on guitar.

Chapter 14 released Like Trees In November their debut EP on November 30, 2010. It is a digital release, although you may purchase the physical copy from Chapter 14 directly on their merchandise page.
