Desire plantation, also known as Alcidesire,[2] is a historic Perique tobacco plantation built circa 1835, and located in Vacherie, Louisiana, Saint James Parish. The plantation house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.
History
Desire LeBlanc, was born in 1831, and was the son of Dominique LeBlanc and Perosine Bourgeois. Desire married Algae Bourgeois in 1854 and had a child, Alcidie LeBlanc, in the same year. April 7, 1885, Alcide married Louis S. Webre, who bought the Bellevue (Belleview) Plantation located on Bayou Grosse Tete in Iberville, and had a son, Joseph M. Webre in 1888.[3]
Vacherie is also the home of other plantations such as the Oak Alley Plantation, Felicity Plantation, Laura Plantation, and the St. Joseph Plantation.
