Introduction

Desh Bhagat University (DBU) located at Mandi Gobindgarh, Punjab has been established under Punjab Governments’ Desh Bhagat University Act. DBU has its four campuses in India at Mandi Gobindgarh, Shri Muktsar Sahib, Moga and Chandigarh and an international campus at Kenya. Desh Bhagat University incredibly secures a reputed position in Punjab region by saturating quality education among the students of 29 states of India and 12 countries worldwide.

Desh Bhagat University offers more than 350 courses in almost 50 various streams of national & international eminence at undergraduate, graduate, post-graduate and doctorate level. Located in a sylvan environment amidst tranquility and serenity, the university campus has fully Wi-Fi connectivity, state-of-art infrastructure, smart classrooms, digital library, fully equipped labs & workshops, sports complex and transport facilities.

Desh Bhagat University has different hostel facilities for boys and girls to provide them comfortable residence during their university education. Each hostel has its own mess providing hygienic meals three times a day.

History

Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh came into existence under the visionary guidance of Sr Lal Singh Ji, a renowned freedom fighter, who made enthusiastic participations during freedom struggle of India. His fight for independence and his services in social activities and education sector got recognition in the form of “Tamra Patra”, awarded to him by the Govt. of India in 1972. Hence the name Desh Bhagat is derived upon his esteemed personality and recognition.

With a motto of ingraining perfection in education as envisioned by Sr. Lal Singh, the parent organization of the university witnessed its flowering in 1996 as Desh Bhagat Group of Institutes, comprising various institutes delivering higher education as per their relevant specialization. By satisfying the educational needs of national & international youth and meeting the industrial demand of expert manpower, Desh Bhagat Group of Institutes emerged in the guise of Desh Bhagat University in 2006, having different university schools imparting congenial education in professional, academic and technical streams.

Campus Life

Located in a sylvan environment, the campus at Desh Bhagat University has approximately 40 lakh square feet covered area in 40+ acres of land at Mandi Gobindgarh. Being a symbol of modern architecture, the campus boasts to bring together the capable academics and students from different cultures, regions and different countries. The lush green campus of DBU is enriched and periodically updated with the latest amenities in vogue with Wi-Fi facility, Hi-Tech building infrastructure, AC classrooms having all the modern communication equipments, modern laboratories, computer labs and digital libraries etc. The computer aided language lab is for 30 students with 30 systems, one master console, LAN facility, English language software for self-study by learners, movable chairs, audio -visual aids with P.A system, a Digital stereo -audio & video system, headphones of high quality and camcorder etc. As a self-sufficient township, the campus at DBU has been equipped with medical aid, ATM facility, telephone facility, postal facilities, guest houses, an auditorium, seminar and conference halls, spacious lawns, botanical and medicinal herbs gardens, a mini market containing the various shops of daily use items like Stationery, Soft Drinks, FMCG products, PCO & Photostat, Canteen and Juice corner Cafeteria etc. The student centre is enriched with a multi-cuisine canteen to offer refreshment during study breaks. The eating joints at the university offer excellent multi-cuisine menus ranging from Indian to Continental and Chinese.

Hostel Facilities

DBU tries its best to provide best in class Residential Services and dorm amenities to the students. The university has established different hostels for boys & girls. All the rooms in hostels are with attached washroom, bed, table, chair and almirahs. Along with this, all the hostel rooms have high speed Wi-Fi connectivity & AC/Cooler facility. All the hostels have been equipped with a mess-providing nutritious & hygienic meals three times a day. The hostel resident students participate & elect different committees like discipline committee, student activity committee & mess committee that takes care for the proper provision of facilities in hostel and food quality in mess.

Placement Cell

Desh Bhagat University is seriously committed towards inculcating dynamic perspectives of immediate employment for the students. To achieve this, DBU has established a placement cell within the campus that utilizes various measures to enhance a rich interface between students and the industry. The placement cell performs a number of enriching activities like personality development programmes, Job Fests, Campus Recruitment Drives, HR Summit, industrial visits, workshops and trainings, seminars, conferences and guest lectures. All these activities are focused on creating awareness amongst students about job requirements of various companies, encouraging the students to take up Industry related projects independently and achieving maximum placement of students in reputed companies. It is the ultimate result of gigantic efforts of the placement cell that more than 270 blue-chip companies like IFB, TATA, Cadbury, Axis Bank, Cipla, IBM, Eastman, The Hero Group, Su-kam, Godrej, Dell, Sigma, HP, Swaraj Mazda, KFC, HCL, Wockhardt, Henkel, Reliance, ICICI Bank, HT, Johnson & Johnson etc. visit our campus regularly.

Scholarships & Financial Aid

As a mission to annihilate illiteracy from Northern India and region of Punjab and to educate all, Desh Bhagat University is committed to provide scholarships & financial support to the students from financially or socially disadvantaged backgrounds. In this regard, Aasra and Satguru foundations-sister concern of Desh Bhagat University, help the students by providing liberal financial help, keeping in view their needs and performance. Scholarships have been arranged for SC, ST, BC, OBC and other minority students as per notifications of Punjab Government, Central Government and Other Statutory Bodies. Apart from this, fee concessions are given to the children of freedom fighters. Some seats are also reserved for their wards. Some seats are reserved for sportsmen/women who have excelled in their respective events/games. These scholarships aim at encouraging excellence in sports and recognizing other talents.
