Desmond "Des" J. Case (birth registered April→June 1918 (age 96–97)[1]) birth registered in Newport district, is a Welsh rugby union and professional rugby league footballer of the 1930s and '40s, playing club level rugby union (RU) for Cross Keys RFC, and Newport RFC, and playing representative level rugby league (RL) for Wales, and at club level for Bradford Northern, as a Wing, Centre, i.e. number 2 or 5, or 3 or 4.[2] Des Case was a Sergeant Major in the British Army during World War II.[3]

Des Case won 4 caps for Wales in 1938–1947 while at Bradford Northern.[4]

Rugby Football League Championship final appearances

Des Case played in Bradford Northern's 5-15 defeat by Warrington in the 1947-48 Rugby Football League Championship final at Maine Road, Manchester on Saturday 8 May 1948.[5]

Challenge Cup Final Appearances

Des Case played Centre, i.e. number 3 in Bradford Northern's 3-8 defeat by Wigan in the 1947–48 Challenge Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 1 May 1948.[6]

Des Case played right-Wing for Northern Command XIII against a Rugby League XIII at Thrum Hall, Halifax on Saturday 21 March 1942.[3]

Genealogical information

Des Case's marriage to Betty Ackland (birth registered October→December 1918 (age 96–97) in Newport district) was registered during October→December 1939 in Caerleon district.[7] They had children; John C. Case (birth registered July→September 1941 (age 73–74) in Bedwellty district), Christine Case (birth registered October→December 1948 (age 66–67) in Bedwellty district), and Marion Case (birth registered October→December 1952 (age 62–63) in Pontypool district).
