Derrick Gosselin
Derrick Philippe Boduin Gosselin (born 12 September 1956) is a Belgian/Flemish engineer and economist. Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Belgian Nuclear Research Center SCK-CEN. He is a specialist in energy and in international strategy and marketing. He is co-founder of the Institute for Futures Research.
Government career
(2013 - ): Honorary Consul of France to Belgium.
(2009-2012): Head of Cabinet of the Minister-President of the Flemish Government, in charge of economy, finance, international affaires & trade and future thinking. Author and architect of the New Industrial Policy for Flanders [1] including the setup of an Industrial Transformations Fund of 200 Meuro (TINA) and the formation of an Industry Council. Government Commissioner and member of the Board of the Agency for Innovation by Science and Technology of Flanders (IWT). Member of the TINA investment fund.
(1982-1984): Attaché for Innovation and Technology at the department for Scientific Policy - Office of the Belgium Prime Minister.
Academic career
Senior full Professor (professor extraordinarius) at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Ghent University. He is the founder-director of the Institute for Futures Research and professor of strategy and marketing (B2B, industrial & international). He specializes in decision making in complex and turbulent environments (Wicked problems, Futures Studies, Complexity theory).
Associate fellow of Green Templeton College and of the Oxford Martin School, University of Oxford.
Elected Fellow of: Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Science and the Arts.[2] (Class of Technology and Engineering); Academia Europaea and Honorary Fellow of Hogenheuvel College (2007-2009) at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven.
His research focuses on decision making in highly complex and uncertain situations.[3] The so-called Futures en Foresight research based on strategic scenario planning or strategic conversations. He worked with Sir David King (scientist), Lord Martin Rees, Ian Goldin, Steve Rayner, John Lennox and Peter Piot.
(since 2008 ) Member of the Global Agenda Councils of the World Economic Forum
(2007-2011) Associate fellow of the Institute for Science, Innovation and Society (InSIS), Oxford Martin School, University of Oxford.
(2008-2011) Board member of the European Council of Applied Sciences and Engineering (Euro-CASE)

Business career
He started in 1984 at Arthur Andersen and joined in 1990, with Baron Julien De Wilde, Baron John J. Goossens when he took the helm of Alcatel Bell. He joined the Suez group in 2002 as executive vice president of the international energy branch.
Education
He studied engineering, economics and business administration at Ghent University, Vlerick Business School, University of Oxford (Green Templeton College), London Business School, Harvard Business School and INSEAD.
He graduaded as an engineer with both a MSc in Electrical Engineering and an MSc in Industrial Engineering at the State University of Ghent. He received his (Technical) MBA from the Vlerick Business School and his Doctorate in Economics from Ghent University.
