The Department of Environment and Primary Industries (DEPI) is a state government department responsible for protecting the environment, boosting productivity in Victoria's food and fibre sector, management of natural resources and managing water resources in the state of Victoria, Australia. It was created in April 2013 by merging the Department of Primary Industries with the Department of Sustainability and Environment.[1][2] The department advises and supports three Victorian ministers, the Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Ryan Smith, and Peter Walsh who is both the Minister for Water and the Minister for Agriculture and Food Security, and helps with the management and administration of their portfolios.

After the 2014 Victorian State Election, it was announced by the Premier Daniel Andrews that the department will be renamed to the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning effective 1 January 2015. The Agriculture portfolio will be moved to the new Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources.

The Department secretary is Adam Fennessy.[3]
