Dennis Elsas

Dennis Elsas (born February 3, 1948) is a New York City disc jockey whose radio career has spanned well over thirty years. He currently hosts an afternoon show on WFUV and a morning show on Sirius XM Satellite Radio's Classic Vinyl channel.

Elsas has also had an extensive voice-over career that includes numerous projects for HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, The Movie Channel and he is also featured as "The Voice of Rock History" at the Museum at Bethel Woods.

Early Radio Experience

Elsas attended Queens College of the City University of New York, graduating in 1968.During his time at Queens College, he was active as a disc jockey and program director at WQMC, the campus-limited radio station at the college. His time at the station corresponded to others who later made their names in brodacasting, including Anna Bond, who would later join WABC-TV as a news anchor.

Upon graduation, Elsas worked for an FM station in New Jersey, until he was hired by progressive rock station WNEW-FM in New York, joining notables such as Jonathan Schwartz (now of WNYC-FM and Sirius), the late Scott Muni, and Alison Steele, the Night Bird.

WNEW-FM Years

On July 11, 1971, Elsas launched what would become a 25-plus year career at WNEW-FM in New York City. During this time he became an influential voice in the progressive FM movement. On air interviews include those of: Elton John, Mick Jagger, Pete Townshend, Paul McCartney and John Lennon.

Elsas' 1974 interview with John Lennon holds a special place amongst Beatles fans, and was included in the permanent co llection of the Museum of Television and Radio. Excerpts of the interview were used in the Beatles Anthology.
