Deep Purple Secret USA Tour was a small warm-up tour of British hard rock band Deep Purple with new guitarist Steve Morse and included only 2 shows in the USA.
Tour pre-history
In 1993, because of frequent disagreements, musical differences, fights and tension between vocalist Ian Gillan and guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, Blackmore left the band one day before the upcoming Japanese tour. Deep Purple hired Joe Satriani as the temporary replacement for Blackmore and he played the Japanese gigs. After the tour, Joe was asked to continue as permanent guitarist but conflicts with his record label made this impossible. Purple then asked ex-Kansas/Dixie Dregs guitarist Steve Morse to join the band. As Ritchie was one of Deep Purple's founding members and very popular with the fans, the other members didn't know how well the new guitarist would go over with the audience. Purple decided to held a small secret warm-up tour in order to see the crowd reaction in a live setting. The first tour took place in Mexico, and four months later in the USA. Fortunately, Steve fit the band quite well and the audience went crazy. Thus, Deep Purple asked Steve to stay in the band.[1][2]
