Debojyoti Mishra (born 1960 in Dinajpur, Bangladesh) is an Indian film composer.[1] He became popular with his minimalist classical compositions for the Hindi film Raincoat, directed by Rituparno Ghosh.[2] He also worked on a Bengali film, Chaturanga, a Suman Mukhopadhyay direction.[3] The songs he composed for the Bengali movie Autograph starring Prasenjit Chatterjee, Nandana Sen and Indraneil Sengupta, gained immense popularity. The most popular song was "Amake Aamar Moto Thakte Dao", sung by Anupam Roy. He has also composed music for the Malayalam film Calcutta News, which was set in Kolkata. The musician has expressed his talent through painting also. He is self-taught artist and exhibited his first solo show in December 2012 in ICCR Kolkata by one of youngest art curator of India, Jyotirmoy Bhttacharya. Jyotirmoy is the first person who noticed his talent as a painter from the casual drawings and criss-crosses on the pages of his score books. He inspired the composer to turn as a painter. The show was very successful and his excellence of color contrast, idea of composition and musical touch to the canvas was highly appreciated by master artists of India as well as art critics and media.

Childhood and early years

Born in a musical family where his father Jahnabi Ranjan Mishra, who was a disciple of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and Shishir Konya Dhar Choudhary, tutored him and introduced him to violin. He has an elder brother Debashis who also played violin but not taken as a profession. Debojyoti brought up at K.M. Naskar Road, Tollygunge. He completed his schooling from Sir Nripendra Nath Institution. He was very closed to Gautam Chattopadhyay, founder of Mahiner Ghoraguli band. He was fortunate to start his career as chief assistant to legendary music composer Salil Chawdhury for long 14 years. He played violin for Satyajit Ray's movies. He has composed more than 500 ad jingles. Many of his songs became very popular in Bengal for his accurate controlled use of instruments and voice. [4] He will be composing for Shakira in a British Production being directed by Enamul Karim.[5]
