DeWitt is a village in DeWitt County, Illinois, United States. The population was 184 at the 2010 census. The U.S. Census Bureau and the USGS list the village's name as De Witt, although the name DeWitt (no space) is used locally and by the U.S. Postal Service.
The village is named for DeWitt Clinton, governor of New York, 1817-1823.
Geography
DeWitt is located at 40°11′02″N 88°47′10″W / 40.183752°N 88.785980°W.[1] DeWitt is located just off of Rt. 54.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.2 square miles (0.52 km2), all of it land.
Demographics
As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 188 people, 76 households, and 58 families residing in the village. The population density was 740.6 people per square mile (290.3/km²). There were 84 housing units at an average density of 330.9 per square mile (129.7/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 97.34% White, 0.53% African American, 0.53% Native American, 0.53% Pacific Islander, and 1.06% from two or more races.
There were 76 households out of which 25.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.5% were married couples living together, 10.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.4% were non-families. 18.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 2.83.
In the village the population was spread out with 21.3% under the age of 18, 4.3% from 18 to 24, 25.0% from 25 to 44, 31.9% from 45 to 64, and 17.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 45 years. For every 100 females there were 89.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.3 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $41,250, and the median income for a family was $42,813. Males had a median income of $44,167 versus $18,500 for females. The per capita income for the village was $18,552. None of the families and 1.1% of the population were living below the poverty line.
