Dawn Dekle

Dawn Dekle was the president of the American University of Iraq - Sulaimani (AUI-S). She was elected unanimously in May 2013, becoming the first female president of an Iraqi university. She previously held positions at American University of Afghanistan, the Singapore Management University, the National University of Singapore, James Madison University, and Dartmouth College. In addition to her work in the university sector, she led two workshops of Young Presidents Organization, worked as a leadership expert with McKinsey & Company, and was a council member for the Singapore Institute of International Affairs.^[1][2][3]

Education

Dawn Dekle completed her undergraduate studies at Texas A&M University, going on to earn a Ph.D in Experimental Psychology from Dartmouth College, and a JD from Stanford Law School.^[2][4][5]

Work at AUIS

After arriving at American University of Iraq - Sulaimani (AUI-S), she led the school in US regional accreditation efforts for both the Academic Preparatory Program, and the undergraduate program. A lawyer by training, she has strengthened the relationship with Stanford Law School seeking to bring a rule of law program to the university.^[6] She also was involved in a project to construct a ‘Oxford style’ courtyard on the university campus.^[7] In November 2014, she left the university due to family circumstances.^[8]
