Davina and the Vagabonds is a jazz blues band based in the Twin Cities, Minnesota and formed in 2006. The band consists Davina Sowers, Dan Eikmeier, Ben Link, Connor McRae and Greg Byers. The band has released two albums; the most recent, titled Sunshine and released in 2014, charted #13 on the Billboard Blues Chart.[1] One of the singles I Would Rather Drink Muddy Water peaked at number 21 on the Billboard Blues Digital Songs.[2] The earlier Black Cloud, released in 2011, was named by the Minneapolis Star & Tribune as one of the ten best releases of the year.[3] Davina and the Vagabonds have traveled extensively throughout the United States, United Kingdom, and Europe [4]
Style
Davina and the Vagabonds's music consists of a New Orleans sound, featuring elements of blues, jazz, R&B, soul, and gospel. Sowers describes the sound as "unique" when attempting to put a name to it.[5] They feature no guitar, Instead using horns, piano, and drums.[6] NPR's Marc Silver refers to the music as "rooted in early-20th-century blues and jazz, but freshened up with the 21st-century cheek of Sowers' teasing vocals and clever lyrics".[7]

Like many of the tracks she wrote for her band's new album, Black Cloud, the tune is rooted in early-20th-century blues and jazz, but freshened up with the 21st-century cheek of Sowers' teasing vocals and clever lyrics. A party anthem, it'd sound perfectly at home booming out of a 1920 Model T — if it had a radio — or a 2011 Prius, preferably with a sunroof."
