David Matthew Warsofsky (born May 30, 1990) is an American professional ice hockey defenceman. He is currently playing with the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Early life

He is Jewish,[1] and was born in Marshfield, Massachusetts, the son of Dawn and Mark Warsofsky.[2]

He played at Marshfield High School in 2004-05, and was at Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, Massachusetts for two years.[3] Warsofsky was Captain of the 2007-08 Under-18 United States men's national ice hockey team, and share the team lead in assists while finishing second on it in points, helping it to a bronze medal at the 2008 IIHF World U18 Championship.[3]

Playing career

He was selected by the St. Louis Blues in the 4th round (95th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Instead of turning pro immediately, Warsofsky played for Boston University in the Hockey East and was a member of the 2009 national championship team as a freshman.[4] He then took time off from college to play for Team USA and help it win the 2010 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships.[4]

On June 26, 2010 the Blues traded Warsofsky's rights to the Boston Bruins in exchange for Vladimir Sobotka.[5]

During the 2013–14 season, Warsofsky made his NHL debut with the Boston Bruins on December 19, 2013, after toiling for 160 games in the American Hockey League. He is the first Bruin to wear the number 79.[6]
