Personal life

Tutera’s grandfather, a successful florist, first noticed his grandson’s artistic ability at an early age and encouraged David to pursue his passion. At age 19, with the advice of his grandfather and only one client, Tutera opened his events planning business.

David Tutera married his long-time partner Ryan Jurica[1] in a Vermont civil union ceremony in 2003.[2] Tutera separated from Jurica on New Year's Day 2013.[3] Tutera and Jurica had twins via surrogate in June 2013. Tutera and Jurica each fertilized an egg that was implanted in the same surrogate, who gave birth to the two babies at the same time. Tutera will raise his biological daughter Cielo while ex-husband Jurica will raise his biological son, and Cielo's fraternal twin, Cedric. Tutera has stated that it is important to him that Cielo has a relationship with her brother and that it will not be kept from her.
