David Hains

David Hains is an Australian businessman and horse breeder.[1][2]

Biography

He graduated from the University of Melbourne.[1]

He started his career as an engineer and corporate restructurer.[1][3] Through his Portland House Group, he invests in equities, fixed interest, property and managed funds globally.[1][2][3] It is Australia's biggest hedge fund.[2] He runs it with his sons.[2] In 1993, he sold an investment to Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel for US$107 million.[1]

He breeds horses at his Kingston Park Stud in Merricks North, Victoria.[1][2][4] His horses include Kingston Town, Lowan Star and Rose of Kingston.[1]

He is married, and has five children.[1] He once took a nine-year hiatus from his career to play golf.[1] As of March 2012, he is worth an estimated US$2 billion.[1][5][6]
