David Green is an American social entrepreneur.
Life
He is an Ypsilanti, Michigan native.[1] He graduated from the University of Michigan with an MPH.
He helped the Seva Foundation establish Aurolab, a nonprofit manufacturer of low cost intraocular lenses for treating cataracts.[2][3]
He lives in El Cerrito, California with his wife, Tanya Shaffer, and their children.[4]
Awards
In 2004 Green was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship [5] for his work as "a pioneer in the manufacture and distribution of advanced health care products for patients in the developing world who could not otherwise afford them." [6]
In 2002 Green was named an Ashoka Fellow.[7]
He is the recipient of several awards. He received the 2009 “Spirit of Helen Keller” award for humanitarian efforts in blindness prevention. He is the recipient of the 2009 University of Michigan Humanitarian Service Award, and he was selected by University of Michigan Engineering students as a leading social entrepreneur alumnus. In 2011 he received the Certificate of Honorary Award of Liaoning Province as a foreign expert who has made great contributions to the economic and social development of Liaoning Province.
