David Bonneville

David Bonneville (Porto, 1978) is a London-based film director and screenwriter.

Education and Background

Bonneville received the University of Westminster academic Excellence scholarship for his MA in Screenwriting & Producing. He was also selected for the German Film & Television Academy Berlin directing course in the context of the Gulbenkian Foundation Arts Programme years after he completed his Sound & Image BA between Portugal (Catholic University of Portugal) and Spain (Pompeu Fabra University).

Bonneville began his career by assisting Turner-Prize winner Douglas Gordon and the centenarian Cannes Palme d'Or winner Manoel de Oliveira and he has also worked for the BBC.

Films

Cigano aka 'Gypsy' (Golden Cat Award for Best Fiction at Izmir Short Film Festival/Turkey; Prize for Best Fiction at the Faro International Film Festival/Portugal; Best Short Film - Audience Award at QueerLisboa18 International Film Festival/Portugal, etc.) was ICA funded and premiered at the Locarno International Film Festival. It was SXSW Film Festival and Palm Springs International Film Festival nominee and one of the 5 Golden Starfishes at the Hamptons Film Festival.


L'Arc-en-Ciel (Best Actress Award at the International Portuguese Language Film Festival/Portugal) was funded by the Gulbenkian Foundation and the RTP public TV Broadcaster.


Heiko (Best Short Film at the 24th MixCopenhagen Film Festival/Denmark and Special Mention at the 10th Slamdance Film Festival/Park City, Utah, USA) was broadcast on Portuguese and Brazilian TV. Heiko was screened at more than 60 festivals worldwide, taking Bonneville to the 58th Berlin Film Festival, and receiving nominations at Paris, Toronto, New York, Hong-Kong and Melbourne film festivals. It is commercially distributed in the UK by Peccadillo Pictures.
