Dave's Killer Bread is an American company based in Milwaukie, Oregon, which makes organic whole-grain breads. As of 2012, its bread is being sold at stores in 11 western states.[2] It was started by Dave Dahl, who learned the baking trade growing up in his family bakery. Founded in 2005, the company has steadily grown, expanding from 30 employees to more than 190 by 2010[3] and to 280 by the end of 2012, and has been covered by The New York Times[3] and MSNBC.[4]

In 1955, Dave's father, Jim Dahl, founded NatureBake. In 1988, Dave's older brother, Glenn Dahl, took over operations of NatureBake. In 2004, Dave, after 15 years in and out of prison, was welcomed back to the family company. In 2005, Dave founded Dave's Killer Bread, a spinoff of NatureBake. In November 2012, NatureBake and Dave's Killer Bread merged. In December 2012, Dave's family sold a 50% share in the company to Goode Partners LLC, a New York venture capital firm, to gain capital as well as marketing and management help for expanding the business.[5]

On November 14, 2013, Dahl was arrested following a police pursuit where he hit one Washington County, Oregon police vehicle and rammed another twice, causing injury to several deputies.[6][7] Elliot Njus of The Oregonian speculated that the arrest could affect both the customer acceptance of Dahl's criminal redemption biography (which is written on the packaging for every loaf of bread) and its relationship with capital equity firm Goode Partners.[8] The incident began when a friend of Dahl's asked for police assistance with a mental health emergency Dahl was having. When the police arrived, Dahl hit one vehicle while driving away, was chased, rammed another vehicle twice after being cornered, and was then taken into custody after a struggle. In late 2014, Dahl was found guilty except for insanity on charges related to this incident.[9]
