Darul Ihsan University (Bengali: দারুল ইহসান বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) or DIU is a purely non-profit educational institution. Like many other private Universities of the country, it is also being developed out of the funds/contributions made available through net surpluses of the students' fees and donations of the benevolent personalities/institutions from home and abroad. The greatest of all contributors was the Late Professor Dr. Syed Ali Ashraf himself. In addition to his two houses located on 20 Katha land in Dhanmondi, he has also donated 13 acres of land in Savar and one residential flat in Cambridge towards the development of Darul Ihsan University. Qatar Charitable Trust, Iqra Charitable Society (Jeddah), Sheikh Ahmed Salah Jamjoom, Dr. Aleem Mohammed (Trinidad, West Indies) and some other foreign agencies have made significant contributions to the University. The university was founded by late Professor Syed Ali Ashraf.[1] DIU was established in 1989. The government of Bangladesh accredited it as a private university in 1993. It has highly qualified teachers in different programme. Lecturer, Asst. Professor and Professor from University of Dhaka would like to teach the students of Institute of Business Studies (IBS Campus)Darul Ihsan University a few years ago.

5. Dept. of Dawah and Islamic Studies.
6. Dept. of Arabic Language and Islamic Studies.
7. Dept. of Library & Information Science.
8. Information Science and Library Management.
9.Department of Institute of Management Studies Other new departments are in progress.

Convocation

1st Convocation was held on 13-03-1997 in the BaliBhadra, Savar, Dhaka. Number of Graduating students was 244. 2nd Convocation was held on 27-03-2002 in the Bangladesh National Museum, Dhaka. Number of Graduating students was 601. 3rd Convocation was held on 21-12-2003 in the Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Center,Sher-e Bangla Nagar, Dhaka.[2]

Alumni Association

DIU decides to establish its Alumni Association. For this purpose, Dr. Khaleda Begum (Treasurer) requests to all ex-students to be present at the Head Office (Dhanmondi). The purpose of Alumni Association is to bonding the ex-students and present student together.

Controversy

University Grants Commission (UGC) warns students and their parent to be careful about admission in Darul Ihsan University of Bangladesh. Md. Shamsul Alam, Director, Private University Division,University of Grants Commission of Bangladesh certify that Darul Ihsan University has the approval of the Ministry of Education, Government of the people's Republic of Bangladesh on 19/08/1993. Its only approved campus by the Government and UGC is House No. 21 Road No. 9/A, Dhanmondi R/A, Dhaka-1209. Certificates, if any, issued from its approved campus to any of its students after completion of the works and fulfillemnt of all the requirements of the above programme, will be considered legally valid. The awarded degree from the Private University is equivalent to a degree obtained from any Public University of Bangladesh. [3] But the authorities of this university are now divided in four separate groups and running their activities form different campuses. Now the University is Functioning under stay order from the court.[4]
