Darren Robinson (born 24 August 1978) is an American guitarist and background singer in the Californian band, Phantom Planet.[1] He helped form the band during his teenage years with the lead singer Alex Greenwald, and ex-band member Jason Schwartzman, in 1994. The band is now on an indefinite hiatus.

He shares the same full name as the late lead rapper of The Fat Boys, who were a Brooklyn hip hop music trio who emerged in the 1980s.

Robinson attended the Hamilton High School "Humanities" program in Los Angeles, California from 1994 to 1996.

He began playing guitar at the age of eleven. He took guitar lessons for about two years and then decided to learn more about music through books and his band mates. He is fond of Gibson guitars.

Darren is also the primary author of the Phantom Planet blog, and seems to be the main source of information regarding the band and its progress.

Darren went tour with the band Miniature Tigers in January, February and March 2009.

He was also in the surf band The Californian,[2] which formed in Summer of 2009. The band included singer John Graney, Robinson on vocals and guitar, Jonathan Price on guitar, keyboard and vocals, bassist Wendy Wang, and drummer Mike Hopkins.

In August 2012, Robinson spearheaded a new experimental music project, Twin Terrors.[3] Through SoundCloud, new music from this entity is being released, with some tracks featuring Phantom Planet's Greenwald.
