Darius "Švarcas" Maskoliūnas ; born January 6, 1971) is a retired Lithuanian professional basketball player. Now he is assistant basketball coach of Lithuanian national team and politician. He is also the head coach of Trefl Sopot.
Since January 6, 2007 was an assistant coach at Žalgiris Kaunas. After the resignation of head coach Gintaras Krapikas on December 18, 2009 became head coach of Žalgiris Kaunas[1] On May 11, 2010 was fired from that post.[2]
Lithuanian national team
Maskoliūnas was a member of the Lithuanian national team which won bronze medals at the 2000 Olympic Games.
Maskoliūnas is coach, last coaching BC Lietuvos Rytas.
Nickname
Darius Maskoliūnas has an old nickname "Švarcas", which appeared during his tenure with Kaunas Žalgiris as an player. When he joined Žalgiris, he was extremely skinny point guard and due to his second name Maskoliūnas, which is a little bit similar to English word "Muscules", he got nickname of "Švarcas" (Arnold Schwarzenegger).[3]
