Dara Khosrowshahi (Persian: دارا خسروشاهی) born in Tehran, Iran,[2] is an Iranian American businessman and the CEO of Expedia, Inc. Khosrowshahi received a B.S. in bioelectrical engineering from Brown University in 1991.[3]
Career
Dara Khosrowshahi has served as CEO of Expedia, Inc., since August 2005. Under his leadership, Expedia has extended its global presence to more than 60 countries worldwide through the Expedia, Hotels.com, and Hotwire online booking brands, and the travel community sites of TripAdvisor Media Network. Expedia operates over 70 Hotels.com booking sites and 20 full-service Expedia-branded booking sites.
Previously, Khosrowshahi served as CEO of IAC Travel, a division of InterActiveCorp. Khosrowshahi was instrumental in the initial expansion of IAC's portfolio of travel brands, which now comprises Expedia, Inc. He served as executive vice president and chief financial officer of IAC, overseeing all of the company's financial matters, and also held the role of executive vice president of operations and strategic planning at the company. Previously, Khosrowshahi served as president of USA Networks Interactive, having joined the company in 1998 as vice president of strategic planning. Prior to joining IAC, Khosrowshahi worked at Allen & Company from 1991 to 1998, and as its vice president from 1995 to 1998.
In February 2015, the New York Times Company announced Khosrowshahi as one of two new nominees for its board of directors. He will formally stand for election at the annual meeting of stockholders on May 6, 2015. Arthur Sulzberger, Jr., the publisher of the New York Times and chairman of The New York Times Company praised Khosrowshahi's "comprehensive digital and international experience, as well as significant financial expertise".[4]
Awards and recognition
In June 2013 Ernst & Young recognized Dara Khosrowshahi as a Pacific Northwest Entrepreneur of the Year award recipient.[5] He is among the U.S. State Department's "List of Prominent Iranian Americans".[6]
