Danish Institute for International Studies

The Danish Institute for International Studies (DIIS) is an independent research institution engaged in research in international affairs.

DIIS and the Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR) together constitute the Danish Centre for International Studies and Human Rights (DCISM), which was established by Act of Parliament on 29 May 2002 and started activities on 1 January 2003. The Act was one of the decisions of the Venstre Danish government elected in 2001 to rationalise government research. The former CDR (Centre for Development Research), which had more independence in its choice of research themes, was folded into the DIIS. The transition was overseen by political scientist John Degnbol-Martinussen until his death in 2002.

DIIS is governed by a board of eleven members. Professor Georg Sørensen, Aarhus University, is Head of the Board.[1] The Institute produces research primarily on globalization, security and development. A further focus is on Danish political and foreign affairs. The Institute is primarily funded by the Danish government.[2]
