Danilo Fernando Avelar, born on June 9, 1989 in Paranavai, Paraná, is a professional Brazilian football player. He currently plays for Serie A side Cagliari. He is known as an attacking Left back and can also play as a Midfielder.
Career
Early career
Avelar began his career in Brazil. Avelar played for Paranavaí, Joinville, Paraná Clube and Rio Claro.
Karpaty Lviv
In May 10, 2010 he joined Karpaty Lviv in Ukrainian Premier League on loan until December 2010. Avelar impressed enough and signed for the club permanently in 2010.[1]
Schalke 04 loan
In January 2011, he joined FC Schalke 04 on loan, the new head coach of FC Schalke 04 announced on March 23, 2011 that the club would not be taking up the option to sign Avelar on a permanent deal, during his time at FC Schalke 04, Avelar won the DFB-Pokal Cup. Avelar returned on June 30, 2011 to his club Karpaty Lviv.[2]
Cagliari
In 2012, Cagliari signed him on loan from Karpaty Lviv. After making 20 appearances in Serie A on loan, he signed for the club permanently in the summer of 2013.
On 31 January 2014, Avelar was set to join Leeds United on loan, however a transfer deadline day move failed as the move was unable to be completed in time before the 11pm deadline. The move was due to prospective new Leeds owner Massimo Cellino lining up the transfer deal.[3] On 12 April 2014, Avelar revealed on 12 April 2014 after a 1–1 draw against Sassuolo that he had had his 'suitcase packed to join Leeds in January only to see the move fall through.<ref name="Cagliari, Avelar ammette: "Sono stato vicino all'addio, ora voglio la salvezza"">"Cagliari, Avelar ammette: "Sono stato vicino all'addio, ora voglio la salvezza"".
