Daniel Sam (born 13 August 1981) is an English super heavyweight kickboxer.[1][2] Currently ranked UK number 1 in the division of Thai Boxing over Chris Knowles,[3] he has competed in the SUPERKOMBAT promotion and is currently signed to GLORY. He is known for his flying knees, devastating low kicks and strong punches.
Career
He replaced Sergei Lascenko to fight Ismael Londt at the SUPERKOMBAT World Grand Prix 2012 Final Elimination on 10 November in Craiova, Romania and lost via TKO in round one when the doctor stopped him from fighting due a swollen eye.[4][5]
He faced Ibrahim Aarab in a non-tournament bout at the SUPERKOMBAT World Grand Prix 2012 Final in Bucharest, Romania on 22 December 2012 and won by split decision after three tough rounds.[6][7]
Sam defeated Singh Jaideep by way of unanimous decision at Glory 5: London in London, England on 23 March 2013.[8][9]
He fought Anderson "Braddock" Silva at Glory 9: New York - 2013 95kg Slam in New York City on 22 June 2013,[10] losing a unanimous decision.[11][12][13]
Sam lost to Sergei Kharitonov by unanimous decision at Glory 11: Chicago - Heavyweight World Championship Tournament in Hoffman Estates, Illinois on 12 October 2013.[14][15][16][17]
He challenged Nicolas Wamba for La Nuit des Champions Heavyweight (+100 kg/220 lb) K-1 Championship at La 20ème Nuit des Champions event in Marseille, France on 23 November 2013, losing on points. He was docked one point in the first round for grabbing his opponents leg, and suffered a knockdown in the third round when Wamba landed a high kick.[18][19]
He lost to Benjamin Adegbuyi via second round knockout at Glory 16: Denver in Broomfield, Colorado, United States on 3 May 2014.[20][21]
Sam lost his Enfusion Heavyweight Championship to Ismael Lazaar when he was knocked out with a left hook in round three at Enfusion 19 in London, England on 29 June 2014.[22][23]
He was replaced by Colin George in a fight against Jérôme Le Banner at Fight Night Saint-Tropez II in Saint-Tropez, France on 4 August 2014.[24]
In November 2014 Daniel Sam launched his own fitness training company called Daniel Sam Fitness, using martial arts and combat based fitness training.
