Daniel Sartori Bessa (born 14 January 1993) is an Italian Brazilian footballer who currently plays as a midfielder for Bologna, on loan from Internazionale.

Club career

Internazionale

Inter noticed him when he was playing for Atletico Paranaense's youth team and brought him to Italy in 2008 [1]

2012 was Bessa's breakthrough year in the primavera, being a main reason for Inter winning the NextGen Series, scoring three goals in the tournament and having assisted Samuele Longo's goal in the final.[2] Unfortunately, an eye injury[3] made him unavailable for newly appointed first team coach, former primavera coach Andrea Stramaccioni. He was back in time for the Trofeo Giacinto Facchetti play offs. He suffered a knee injury in the final vs Lazio which kept him out for the rest of the year.[4] In November 2012, Bessa's contract with Inter was renewed.[5]

loan at Vicenza

On January 31, 2013 Bessa was loaned to Vicenza Calcio.[6] He made his Serie B debut for Vicenza on March 9, 2013 in a match against Padova, coming on as a substitute.[7] Having not played regularly for over half a year due to injury, an unfit Bessa didn't get many minutes for a relegation battling Vicenza side.[8]

loan at S.C. Olhanense

On July 15, 2013 Bessa, along with fellow Inter player Vid Belec, completed a loan to Sporting Clube Olhanense.[9] He made his Primeira Liga debut on 17 August 2013 against Vitoria de Guimaraes.

On November 27, Olhanense coach Paulo Alves announced that Bessa, who only got 13 minutes of playing time all season, wasn't part of his plans.[10]

loan at Sparta Rotterdam

On January 22, 2014, Bessa started training with Eerste Divisie team Sparta Rotterdam.[11] After having some injury problems,[12] he finally made his Eerste Divisie debut on March 9, coming on as a sub in the 54th minute against Jong FC Twente.[13]

loan at Bologna F.C.

On August 27, 2014, Bessa was loaned to Serie B side Bologna F.C. 1909. [14][15] He made his debut as a 74th-minute substitute in the Serie B match against F.C. Crotone on 21 September. [16] On December 13, 2014, he scored his first Serie B goal against Frosinone.

Playing style

His playing style is similar to a very traditional playmaker and he has been compared to a both Wesley Sneijder and Xavi[17] as he has abilities from both players. Bessa is technically gifted and excels at playing the no. 10 role. He has a low center of gravity but has the strength and ability to shield off defenders and protect the ball. With his eye for goal, he may alternate between a central attacking midfielder and a Wayne Rooney-type centre forward (second striker), playing “in the hole” in a 4-4-1-1, as he did in the NextGen series.

He has the ability to play deep and move up with the play as he dictates it, but also to be directly involved in the attack. Though, he is not known for his speed, his awareness and vision are his best qualities. He also has dribbling skills and the ability to completely control the play; qualities of a true playmaker.[18]
