I. Daneek Miller (born November 6, 1960) represents the New York City Council's 27th District which comprises St. Albans, Cambria Heights, Jamaica, and Hollis among other neighborhoods in Southeast Queens. He was elected in the 2013 New York City Council elections, securing the Democratic nomination from a crowded field of six candidates and then winning the general election with 96.9% of the vote.[1]
Miller previously served as president of Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local No. 1056, representing drivers and mechanics who work for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's Queens Bus Division.[2] Today, he chairs the City Council Committee on Civil Service and Labor, in addition to holding membership in the Black, Latino and Asian Caucus, along with the Progressive Caucus. In March 2014 Miller was named to the Council's new Policy Working Group. [3]
