Damian Johnson (born March 9, 1987) is an American professional basketball player. He played college basketball at the University of Minnesota.
High school career
Johnson attended Thibodaux High School in Thibodaux, Louisiana and was first team All-state in Louisiana as a senior. He was also the All-Bayou Region Player of the Year in 2005, as well as his conference's defensive player of the year three times-as a sophomore, junior, and senior.
College career
Coming out of Louisiana, Johnson was highly recruited and signed to play with Minnesota in 2005, but instead redshirted the 2005–06 season. As a redshirted freshman in 2006–07, he averaged just 1.6 points per game while averaging only 9.8 minutes per game. As a sophomore in the 2007–08 season, he sprung up the depth charts in Minnesota and scored 7.1 points per game while rising his minutes to 22.6 per game, and he started many of the 34 games he played in. As a junior in 2008–09, he averaged 9.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.9 steals and 2.0 blocks per game in 30 games. As a senior in 2009–10, he averaged 9.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.9 blocks per game in 35 games.[1]
Professional career
After not being drafted by the NBA in 2010, Johnson joined the Miami Heat and Minnesota Timberwolves for the 2010 as a free agentNBA Summer League.[2][3] In August 2010, he signed with the Oita Heat Devils of Japan for the 2010–11 season.[4]
In November 2011, he was acquired by the Bakersfield Jam. On December 28, 2011, he was waived by the Jam. On December 31, 2011, he was acquired by the Springfield Armor.[5]
In January 2014, he signed with the Mount Gambier Pioneers of the South East Australian Basketball League.[6]
