Daisy Ridley (born 10 April 1992)[3] is an English film and television actress.

Career

Ridley has appeared in the television programmes Youngers, Silent Witness, Mr Selfridge and Casualty.[2][4][5][6] She also appeared in the short film Blue Season, which was entered into the Sci-Fi-London 48-Hour Film Challenge.[7] She played the lead in film three of Lifesaver,[8] an interactive film which was nominated for a BAFTA British Academy Award.[9] She has also appeared in the music video for Wiley's song "Lights On".[10][11]

In April 2014, it was announced that she will play Rey, one of the lead characters in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.[2][4][5][12][13] She was chosen for the film in February 2014.[14] The casting of Ridley has generally been seen as a deliberate move from director J. J. Abrams, seeing as he wishes to repeat the casting of relatively unknown actors for the lead roles like George Lucas did with the first Star Wars film in 1977.[15]

After receiving several competing offers, Ridley switched from her original talent agency Jonathan Arun to the United Talent Agency in August 2014.[16] Following a two-month stint with UTA, Ridley signed on with the Creative Artists Agency in October 2014.[17]

Personal life

Ridley's mother, Louise Fawkner-Corbett, works in internal communications[18] and her father, Chris Ridley, is a photographer.[10][19] She is the youngest of five children and has two sisters, Kika-Rose and Poppy, and two half-sisters from her father's previous marriage.[10][19] Kika-Rose works as a model and is signed to Models 1.[19][13] Her great uncle is Arnold Ridley of Dad's Army fame.[20] Her boyfriend, Charlie Hamblett, is also an actor.[10]

Ridley's family has a house in west London's Maida Vale district.[10] She attended Tring Park School for the Performing Arts in Hertfordshire, graduating in 2010 at the age of 18.[10][19]
