Dadri is a town city and a municipal board in Gautam Buddha Nagar District in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India.

Geography

Dadri is located at 28°34′N 77°33′E / 28.57°N 77.55°E.[1] It has an average elevation of 216 metres (709 ft).

Wetlands

Large swathes of Dadri have been classified as a wetland and is home to Blackbuck Blackbucks and Nilgai Nilgais.[2] It is also home to a significant population of migratory birds coming from as far as Siberia and Europe.[3]

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[4] Dadri had a population of 57,457. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Dadri has an average literacy rate of 34%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 90% and, female literacy is 78%. In Dadri, 18% of the population is under 5 years of age.

History

Raja Rao Dargahi Singh Bhati, the Gurjar chieftain of Dadri Bhatner Riyasat, in 1818 possessed 133 villages at a fixed revenue of Rs.29,000 with capital in Kathera village. He also bought a fort at Parikshit Garh in District Meerut, also known as Quila Parikishatgarh from Mughal emperor in the eighteenth century and 277 villages in 1818. Raja Rao Dargahi Singh Bhati ruled all over Noida, greater Noida and part of Ghaziabad. In 1828 Britishers attacked the riyasat and Raja Rao Dargahi Singh Bhati was killed. Britishers took all wealth, fort and 5000 bighas of land. Later on land was distributed among farmers quisling in order to suppress the unrest.

Education

In 1968, to take care of educational needs of this semi urban area, Mihir Bhoj (P.G.) College was established and now it has become a leading college of Chaudhary Charan Singh University. College is equipped with modern technologies and have 4 smart class rooms and a Language Lab apart from fully equipped Science Labs. Schools like G.R.Global Academy are providing modern education. It is situated in Phoolwati Nagar, Bishara NTPC road Dadri. Dadri is also having an educational institute named "Sunrise Academy" from nursery to 10+2 on Aamka-Roopwas Road. It is the best CBSE school in the region as well as one of the oldest schools in Dadri. This is the first school to introduce Smart Classes for the welfare of students.
