Dabit
David Kim (Korean: Kim Chung-ook; Hangul: 김정욱, born December 5, 1989), better known by his stage name Dabit (Hangul: 다빗), is a South Korean-American solo singer-songwriter under KoffeeDream Entertainment. He debuted on his birthdate, December 5th, 2013. His fanclub name is called "Dalbit" (Hangul: 달빛) which means "moonlight". He was born and raised in the state of Ohio.[1]
Biography
Childhood
Dabit was born and raised in the state of Ohio, USA, the youngest of 3 brothers. From childhood he has always been passionate about music and had been doing song covers from the early age. He started Berklee College of Music when he received a renewable scholarship. After 2 years of attending Berklee he decided to go to Korea to pursue his dream of becoming a singer-songwriter.
Pre-Debut
Dabit auditioned at different companies in Korea, where he was able to become a trainee at Choeun Entertainment. He trained at Choeun Entertainment for a year to debut with the boy group 24K. Not long after the debut of 24K, Dabit realized that idol music was not for him. He decided to leave the company and join KoffeeDream Entertainment (KDE) to help him to start his journey as a solo singer-songwriter.[2]
Career
Debut
Dabit released his first digital single "Whoo Whoo Whoo" on his birthday (December 5, 2013), making it a special moment for both him and his fans. Both songs in his first digital album, "Whoo Whoo Whoo" and "When the Wind Blows", are written and composed by Dabit himself. The song introduced Dabit's style of music, which can be best described as k-pop with a light jazz/swing influence.
1st Fan meetings
December 21, 2013, Dabit held his very first mini fanmeeting which was held in Apgujeong, Seoul where both Korean and international fans came to see Dabit for the first time. This was to celebrate his birthday, debut and first Christmas with his fans.[3]
June 27, 2014 Dabit held his first international fan meeting, which was held in Tunisia. Tickets were sold out in less than 6 hours with attendees of about 2000.[4]
Radio career
Currently, every Wednesday 12am KST Dabit makes an appearances on Arirang Radio's "Hot Beat" called "Pray 4 U" where Dabit and the main host, Kevin Kim (from ZE:A),[5] talks about their personal lives and give advice to listeners who send in their concerns. The show has shown great respond globally despite the time difference.
Acting career
Dabit is currently taking acting lesson to also pursue a career in acting. He has made first cameo appearance on SBS's drama called "Endless Love".
Music career
Dabit will begin as opening every week for a small theater in Hongdae starting August 2014. He has also hinted this fan of a Comeback this fall.
