Dabhade

Dabhade is a Maratha clan found largely in Maharashtra, India. The clan is primarily known for Maratha military leader Khanderao Dabhade.[1] Their capital was Talegaon Dabhade, near Pune.

The "Mul-Purush" of the family was Bajajirao Dabhade. His son Yesajirao Dabhade was the personal bodyguard of the great Maratha Warrior King 'Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj Bhonsle'. The eldest son of Yesajirao was Khanderao Dabhade who was conferred the title of "Sarsenapati" on 11 January 1717 by Chattrapati Shahu Maharaj of Satara (Grandson of Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj). His younger son Shivaji Dabhade helped Chhattrapati Rajaram Maharaj reach Jinji safely from the Mughals.

Sarsenapati Umabaisaheb Khanderao Dabhade was the only woman Commander-in-Chief of the Maratha Army.

Sarsenapati Trimbakrao Khanderao Dabhade Ist was killed in the Battle of Dabhoi on 1 April 1731.

Sarsenapati Trimbakrao Dabhade IInd was present in the Battle of Panipat on 14 January 1761.

The family was divided into the Senior Branch and Junior Branch in 1933. The descendants presently live in Talegaon Dabhade and Pune.
