DJ Patil

Dhanurjay "DJ" Patil (born August 3, 1969) is the Chief Data Scientist of the United States Office of Science and Technology Policy.[1][2][3] He previously served as the Vice President of Product at RelateIQ, which was acquired by Salesforce.com, and as Head of Data Products and Chief Scientist of LinkedIn.[4] His father, Suhas Patil, is a venture capitalist and the founder of Cirrus Logic.

Patil has held positions at LinkedIn, Greylock Partners, Skype, PayPal, and eBay. He also briefly worked at the U.S. Department of Defense employing social network analysis to help anticipate emerging threats.[5][6]

Patil attended Monta Vista High School and De Anza College, both in Cupertino, California.[7][8] He holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of California, San Diego, and a PhD in applied mathematics from the University of Maryland College Park. He also served as a faculty member at the University of Maryland, and used open datasets published by NOAA to improve numerical weather forecasting.

Along with Jeff Hammerbacher, Patil is credited with coining the term "data science".[9]
