DD India is an Indian satellite television channel which is marketed towards Indian audiences living abroad, and offers an update on the social, cultural, and political aspects of India. The channel was launched on March 14, 1995 as DD International(DD 3), and is available in 146 countries throughout the world.[1] It was renamed as DD World in year 2000 and finally rebranded as DD India in 2002.The channel is owned and operated by Doordarshan, a television network of Prasar Bharati Broadcasting Corporation and is based in New Delhi, India. The network features some original programming, such as dramas, comedy-series, talk shows, documentaries, and re-runs of popular TV shows from other Indian television channels. In addition, the channel also shows programmes in other Indian languages, such as Urdu, Punjabi, Tamil, etc.
In United States, the channel was launched on July 26, 2007, and is available on DirecTV through Genesis Networks.[2]
