Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency or CIPA is the investment promotion agency of Cyprus. It is in charge of "Inviting in" FDI in Cyprus which is aligned with Cyprus's economic strategies and is engaged in cooperation with international economic organisations, foreign investment promotion agencies, chambers of commerce and business associations. The agency is a member of the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies and ranked 5th out of 189 countries in the 2012 World Bank Report.[1][2][3][4]
History & Goals
Established with a Council of Ministers decision in 2007, the Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency is a registered Nonprofit organization limited by guarantee and fully funded by the Government of Cyprus. Operating since January 2008, the Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency has a threefold mandate:[5]
- To promote Cyprus as an attractive international investment centre in key priority growth sectors[6][7][8][9]
- To advocate reform in Cyprus required to improve the regulatory and business environment and infrastructure[10]
- To provide investor support with after care and further development services
Functions
- Offering relevant investment information for domestic and international enterprises;
- Carrying out topic research related to investment while organizing and implementing the foreign investment promotion strategies;
- Engaging in cooperation and communications with the relevant international economic organizations, foreign investment promotion agencies, chambers of commerce and business associations;[11]
- Planning and organizing large investment promotion activities at home and abroad, organizing relevant investment activities such as training, forum, conference and exhibition;[12][13][14]
- Assisting foreign investment enterprises for relevant legal procedures; involving in the process all relevant Government Services.
- Attending International conferences like the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA) as well as other international industry events.
- Accepting and handling complaints from foreign investment enterprises.
- Dealing with consultation, information service, market investigation, credit investigation related to investment activities and planning services on investment promotion;
