Crockett is an unincorporated community in Wythe County, Virginia, United States. Crockett Virginia is a small town in Southwest Virginia between Wytheville and Rural Retreat. The local postmistress Donna Jean Richardson Stevenson was murdered inside the Crockett Post Office on September 18,1992. The area was shocked and stunned because this was the first homicide in the Wythe County area since 1986. The crime made headlines throughout Virginia and surrounding states. The post office remains open, but only for two hours a day. It has been rumored that the post office could soon be closed permanently.
