Tănase began his career on youthside for Argeș Pitești and in the summer of 2003 was promoted to the first team which played in the Liga I. He only played in a handful of games in his first years with the Romanian team[1] and as a result he was loaned to Dacia Mioveni for the first half of the 2005–06 campaign. After his return to Argeș Pitești he became an important player in the team gathering more than 100 games before his departure.[3]

Steaua Bucuresti

On 6 August 2009 he signed a 5-year contract with Steaua București for an undisclosed fee, though media reports estimated it to be €1.8 million for buying 50% of the player's rights.[4][5]

On 13 December 2009 he scored his first goal for Steaua in a 3–2 victory against Internațional Curtea de Argeș, which was a fantastic winning goal in the 72nd minute.[6]

In the 2010–11 he scored 3 goals, 2 in the 2010-11 UEFA Europa League and one from a spectacular volley against Liga I side Pandurii Târgu Jiu.

In the 2011–12 season he showed he was in perfect form by scoring in a 4–0 win against Liga I side Mioveni and scored the goal against CSKA Sofia that qualified his team for the 2011-12 UEFA Europa League group stage. He continued his good form, contributing two essential goals against Maccabi Haifa in the group stage.
