Maracha is one of the new districts created out of the divide-and-rule policy of President Museveni. It was created by altering the boundary of Maracha-Terego district; a district formerly created out of Maracha and Terego counties, formerly an opposition stronghold. The district is a one-county district with seven Sub Counties.
