Sport
The local Gaelic football club, Corofin GAC, were All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship winners in 1998 and again in 2015. They have won 16 Galway Senior Football Championship titles: from 1932, 1946, 1977, 1991, 1993, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2014. Their team of the 1990s was the most successful, winning the county title five times and the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship. This was followed by five more wins during the 2000s (decade). They have gone on to win the Connacht Senior Football Championship on five occasions: 1991, 1995, 1997 (which led to the 1998 All Ireland title), 2008 and 2014 (which led to the 2015 All Ireland title). The Corofin Senior Team won the 2015 All-Ireland clubs final, beating Slaughtneil from Derry.
A Corofin native, Bishop Patrick Duggan of Clonfert, declined the honour of being the first patron of the GAA, giving the honour to the younger man, Archbishop Thomas Croke of Cashel.
