Copper Country Humane Society
The Copper Country Humane Society (CCHS) is a non-profit (501c3)[1] humane society located in Houghton, Michigan, USA. It is not part of any state or national organization.[2] It serves Keweenaw, Baraga, and Houghton Counties. The mission of the humane society is to be a no-kill shelter and not set a "time limit" for any animal.[3] The shelter averages 70-75 cats and 10-15 dogs at any given time.[4]
CCHS was founded in 1972.[3] The humane society merged with the Keweenaw Animal Alliance in 1994 to better serve the area. Their current building (As of 2011) was completed in 2005,[3] located by the Nara Nature chalet along US Highway 41.[5]
The Copper Country Humane Society won first place, a $10,000 grant, in the Animal Rescue Site $100,000 Shelter+ Challenge for January-April 2010.[6]
