Converxencia XXI is a Galician party, which identifies itself as Galicianist, Pro-Europeanist and liberal, being the first party of this ideology in the country. Converxencia XXI tries to provide solutions from a Liberal-Democrat point of view, which could help solving the debate on the real needs of the Galician society, now plunged into a severe economic and social crisis. These solutions range from the creation of a solid inner infrastructure network as a means of business enhancing, to the strategic projection of all Galician capitals. These measures are also meant to oppose spoil systems and the persistent local-minded subsidiary mentality. Converxencia XXI makes a special emphasis on multilingualism, European integration and cultural opening. The final goal is to provide social conditions which can lead to developing the maximum potential of all individuals.

History

Founded in May 2009 by its later elected First Secretary, Carlos Vázquez Padín, Converxencia XXI has soon started contacts with other European organisations. Over the political field, the party has entered into an early expansion stage, building up its militancy mostly upon compromised citizens, who share their ideological Liberal-Democrat and Reform basis. The party achieved representation in the last local elections, while being focused on the largest Galician cities. For 2011 general elections, and for the first time in the history of democracy in Spain, some parties were required to submit a minimum number of signatures just to participate in elections, every elections before the participation was free. Converxencia XXI presented signatures in the form of endorsement and won the right to participate in all Galicia territory, having the best election result in its history and consolidating itself as the second Galician political force in the country.

Achievements

The earliest achievements of the party involved the foundation of the first internationally homologated Galician Think Tank, known as GALIDEM, within the European Liberal Forum. The GALIDEM focuses its efforts towards social research, economic studies, and overall boosting of the knowledge society from a Liberal point of view. GALIDEM will host the 2012 Iberian Liberal Encounter. The current First Secretary is also known for his articles in several means of communication over the Internet. These have been summarized into a single book, which was first published in early 2011.

In October 2011, CXXI attained several thousands of support signatures over the country, being the only Galician party to achieve that requirement in all Galician provinces. As a consequence, CXXI became the first centrist-galicianist party to stand for all territories in a general election since 1991.
