Continental Resources
Continental Resources is a petroleum liquids producer in the United States that has large holdings in the Bakken formation tight oil area of North Dakota and Montana. Based in Oklahoma City, the company also has a leading presence in the Anadarko Woodford Play of Oklahoma and the Red River Units Play of North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming. Founded in 1967, Continental’s growth strategy has focused on crude oil since the 1980s.

- 1967 Harold Hamm founds Shelly Dean Oil Co., Continental’s predecessor
- 1974 Harold Hamm begins drilling a series of successful producing wells in Oklahoma
- 1983 Harold Hamm drills 17 dry holes in a row
- 1985 Harold Hamm acquires Petro-Lewis and 500+ oil and gas wells, it remains the company's largest acquisition
- 1990 Harold Hamm renames his oil and gas production/operations company Continental Resources
- 1991 Continental Resources discovers Ames Hold, one of only 6 oil-producing meteorite craters in the nation
- 1992 Continental purchases headquarters buildings in downtown Enid, OK
- 1993 Continental expands into the Rocky Mountain region and begins using 3-D seismic
- 1995 Continental discovers what was later described as the Cedar Hills Field in North Dakota – the 7th largest onshore field in the lower 48 United States ranked by liquid proved reserves – and is the 1st to develop it exclusively through precision horizontal drilling
- 2003 Continental enters the North Dakota Bakken with a purchase of 300,000 acres
- 2004 Continental completes the Robert Heuer 1-17R in Divide County, the 1st commercially successful well in the North Dakota Bakken to be both horizontally drilled and hydraulic fracture stimulated
- 2007 Continental is listed on the New York Stock Exchange (ticker symbol: CLR)
- 2008 Continental is the 1st to complete a horizontal well in the Three Forks zone
- 2010 Continental introduces the ECO-Pad® drilling technique
- 2010 Continental surpasses the 500-employee mark
- 2011 Interactive Media Council, Inc. names Continental's Web site Best in Class in the Energy Industry, created by a team led by Brian Engel and designed by Marker Seven.[1]
- 2012 Continental officially moves headquarters to Oklahoma City
- 2012 Harold Hamm named one of TIME Magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the World
