Connor Thomas Pain (born 11 November 1993) is an Australian football (soccer) player who plays as a forward for Melbourne Victory and for the Australia senior and under-20 national team. He signed his first professional contract on 3 March 2013.
Personal life
His grandfather Tommy Casey played in Newcastle United's 1955 FA Cup Final‑winning team and for the Northern Ireland team which reached the quarter finals of the 1958 FIFA World Cup.[3] His father, Craig Pain, was a rugby union player who played in the Hong Kong Sevens Rugby Tournament between 1987 and 1993 and coached Hong Kong in the 2002 tournament.[4]
Early life
Connor Pain was born in Hong Kong in 11 November 1993 to ex-patriate parents from England. He lived in Hong Kong for the first 8 years of his life, before moving to Melbourne. Pain attended St Kevin's College, Toorak for his secondary schooling.
Club career
He made his A-League debut in the Melbourne derby game against Melbourne Heart on 2 February 2013 and scored his first A League goal against Western Sydney Wanderers on 17 February 2013.
International career
After breaking through to Melbourne Victory's first team late in the 2012-13 season, Connor Pain was called up for the 2013 U-20 World Cup, after which he was among four players from that squad to be called up for the senior Socceroos camp ahead of the 2013 EAFF East Asian Cup. Despite travelling back to Australia to appear for Melbourne Victory in a preseason friendly against English giants Liverpool F.C. in front of 95,000 fans at the MCG where he was singled out for praise by Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers,[5] just a few days later Pain made his senior national team debut against China in the final game of the tournament.[6]
